Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 23, 2026

Smartcomm Utility ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information when you use our mobile and web applications, websites, and services (the "Service").

1. Information we collect

We may collect information you provide directly (for example when you create an account, update your profile, or contact support), information collected automatically (such as usage telemetry and device identifiers), and meter or consumption data necessary to deliver billing and metering services. Types of information include:

  • Account details (name, email, phone)
  • Authentication and session tokens
  • Meter readings, device identifiers and telemetry
  • Payment and billing information (when you make purchases)
  • Usage, crash and performance data

Device permissions & features used

To provide certain features the Service may request access to device features or sensors. We only request permissions when necessary and will prompt you at the time of use. Examples include:

  • Location: display nearby assets on a map, provide navigation, and associate location metadata with meter reads where required for operational or compliance purposes.
  • Network / Connectivity: detect online/offline status to enable reliable syncing between the app and our servers.
  • Storage: save and upload documents, images, receipts, or signatures related to tasks and billing.

You can control these permissions in your device or browser settings. If you deny or revoke a permission, certain features (for example photo upload, scanning, or navigation) may not function. We limit collection and use of data from device features to the minimum necessary for the stated purpose.

2. How we use your information

We use information to provide and improve the Service, authenticate users, process billing, investigate issues, prevent fraud, and communicate with you about your account. We may also use aggregated (non-identifying) information for analytics and product improvement. We support offline-first functionality: data collected while offline may be stored on the device and synced to our servers when connectivity is available.

3. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Your organisation or employer (for project management, supervision, and compliance) where accounts are managed by an organisation
  • Service providers who perform functions on our behalf (e.g., hosting, payments)
  • Affiliates and trusted partners when required to operate the Service
  • Analytics and monitoring providers to help us improve reliability and performance (aggregated or pseudonymized where possible)
  • Law enforcement or regulators when required by law or to protect rights

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to provide core functionality, remember preferences, and measure usage. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies, but some parts of the Service may not work correctly if cookies are disabled.

5. Data retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. When data is no longer needed, we will delete or anonymize it.

For organisation-managed deployments (for example where your account is provisioned by your employer), retention periods and processing requirements may be set by your organisation; we will retain and process data as instructed by the organisation for those deployments.

6. Security

We implement administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure — we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, as well as the right to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights contact us using the details below.

8. Children

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

9. International transfers

We may transfer your information to countries other than your own for storage and processing. When we do, we take steps to ensure an adequate level of protection for your personal information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will post a prominent notice in the Service or update the effective date above.
